Annual - Marking/Tailing/Tagging
Overview
Marking/Tailing new offspring and capturing animal information can be accomplished using the following steps in StockManager:
-
Setup Group(s) (if applicable) in the system using the Groups screen
-
Collect animal information using the Configured Events screen
-
Report any new Cattle or Deer to NAIT using the NAIT Reporting screen
Setup Groups
Setting up Group(s) to assign animals to provides a simple way to collect data, plan feeding and monitor progress of these animals.
The Group Settings screen displayed below shows a few examples of how offspring Groups can be setup:
-
The Non-ID Group Lambs (Single, Twin, etc.) could be setup to track the counts and metrics of new lambs and plan feeding
-
ID Group Calves could be setup to collect data, track counts and metrics of new calves and plan feeding
Collect Animal Data
The Configured Events screen can be used to quickly establish individual animal records for new offspring and add data or capture Group data for new Non-ID Groups based on individual animal measurements.
The screens displayed below show an example of the setup (left) and event (right ) screen for a Marking event where:
-
EID tag information is added automatically on scan (VID information is automatically added if EID/VID tag file was imported previously)
-
Default data of Birth Date, Birth Rank, Breed and Health Treatment is added automatically to each animal's individual record
-
Condition score and Gender is selected manually in the event
-
Weight is collected automatically from a Bluetooth enabled weigh indicator
-
Note: Not shown, but if pedigree information is to be collected, this is typically the point where it is added to an animal's record. StockManager provides the ability to add a Dam & Sire EID or VID tag or Dam & Sire Group. If Dam or Sire Tag is added to an animal's record, the Offspring tag is automatically added to the Dam's and Sire's record
The screens displayed below show a similar setup for a Tailing event of non-tagged animals where condition score, gender and weight is being collected.
After this event is completed, the count of animals, average condition score and average weight will be added to the Non-ID Group record where default data such as Breed, Health Treatments, etc. can be added.
NAIT Reporting
If animals are Cattle or Deer, the last step is to register these to your farm in the NAIT system. StockManager makes this easy by providing a web portal screen that shows all NAIT reporting requirement by status and animal type.
To report animals to NAIT:
-
From the web portal - select Reporting menu item at the top and then NAIT Reporting from the drop down menu
-
Select the Farm name that you would like to do reporting for from the drop down list of Farms at the top left.
-
Once the farm has been selected, a screen similar to what is shown below will be displayed. This will show the number of animals added to the system.
-
Simply select the SEND TO NAIT button to register these animals.
Note: If any numbers are associated with Grazed Out or Sold animals, the system will walk you through additional steps to identify the NAIT number of the farms where the animals went to.
