Import Tags

Overview

Overview

This screen:

  • Displays all previous Tag Imports for a farm

  • Enables a user to initiate new imports

  • Enables a user to  view details of tags in previous imports

Ideally, tag details should be imported here and synced to the StockManager Android tablet application prior to attaching to an animal and creating an animal record in the system. If this is done, when an EID is scanned, the balance of the Visual Tag information will be displayed on the animal record (i.e. Animal Type, VID Year and Tag Color). The same applies if the VID is entered in the system, the EID information will be shown on the animal record.

If a tag has been attached to an animal and entered in the Android tablet application (EID scanned or VID entered) prior to the tag details being imported using this screen, it is possible to create two animal records for the same animal - i.e. an EID record and a VID record. Importing the tag details first eliminates this possibility.

If a tag has been attached to an animal, entered in the Android tablet application (EID scanned or VID entered) and synced prior to the tag details being imported using this screen, when the tag details are imported, the missing tag details will be added to the animal record when the tablet application is synced to the cloud as long as individual records have not been created for the EID and VID.

Select Farm

Select Farm

When you initially select Import Tags from the Records menu, it will display the following screen to select the farm to view previous Import Tags details or initiate new imports. This step is required so users with access to multiple farms can select the appropriate farm to import the tags into.

Select the down arrow in the SELECT FARM box and select the name of the Farm that you would like to imports tags into or view previous import details.

Import Tags Summary

      • Note - if the tag information has been imported previously, it will not be counted here or shown in the Tag Details page

    • # Completed - displays the number or tags that have all required information completed. The following criteria will be used to determine whether a tag should be considered “Completed”:

      • Tag Imports from Allflex or Zee Tags must have: EID, Animal Type, VID Number, VID Year and Tag Color

      • Device File Imports must have one of the following combinations:

        • EID and Animal Type

    • Status

      • Imported - displayed if all required information has been added to the tags on the import

      • Incomplete - displayed if additional information is required for any of the tags in the import

    • Action

      • If the tag import Status is Incomplete, this will show an Add Details link. Select this to open the Complete Import screen (see below)

Import Tag Files

Import Tag Files

The Import Tag Files button provides the ability to import information associated with tags ordered from Allflex or Zee Tags or import tag files directly from a file on your device. After identifying the file either by order number (Allflex or Zee Tags) or file name (device file), you can import the file and add associated data for use in the system.

If this button is selected, it will display a screen similar to what is shown below. The information on the screen is as follows:

  • Source - displays three options to choose from: Allflex, Zee Tags or Device File

  • Order Number - if Allflex or Zee Tags was selected in Source dropdown, this field will be active to enter a tag order number for lookup

  • Select File - if Device File was selected in Source dropdown, this will open the file browser on the device to select the tag file to import (limits to .csv files)

  • COMPLETE button

    • Will be inactive (gray) until a source and order number (Allflex or Zee Tags) or file name (device file) has been selected

    • Once selected, this will present the Import Tags Summary screen with a progress indicator while the import is processed.

    • Once the import has completed, it will present the import details in the table

Notes:

  • If the order number entered is not found, a dialog will be presented with this notification

  • If an Allflex or Zee Tags import is attempted with the same order number as was previously imported, it will present an error message

  • If there are errors in a device file, the system will present a dialog with the line of the file and a description of the error so it can be fixed and the file import retried

  • Device File - the device file must be formatted to StockManager standards. Click here for a spreadsheet with standards definitions and input template.

Manual Tag Load

Manual Tag Load

The Manual Tag Load button provides the ability to load Visual only tags by number sequence. If this button is selected, it will display a screen similar to what is shown below. The information on the screen is as follows:

  • VID # (From) - this is active and allows numerical entries up to 6 digits
  • VID # (To) - this becomes active after VID (From) is completed and only allows numbers higher than the VID (From) entry and up to 6 digits
  • Animal Type - select Cattle, Deer or Sheep

  • Visual Tag Year - select from 9999 then 2020 to 2007 in descending order

  • Tag Colour - Select from list of available colours

  • COMPLETE button

    • Will be inactive (gray) until all of the following entries are made: VID #(From), VID #(To), Animal Type, Visual Tag Year and Tag Color

    • Once selected, this will present the Import Tags Summary screen with a progress indicator while the import is processed.

    • Once the import has completed, it will present the import details in the table

Complete Import

Complete Import

If selected from the Import Tags Summary screen (below the Status header) it will display a screen with a listing of all tags with missing information grouped by Tag Color first and by missing details second. The information on the screen is as follows:

  • Tag Colour - if available. If missing, indicates it needs to be assigned

  • # Unassigned - the number of tags in the order that have not been assigned the minimal required information

  • Starting VID - (if on file in conforming 1-6 digit format) - not shown if not in this format

  • Ending VID - (if on file in conforming 1-6 digit format) - not shown if not in this format

  • Animal Type - if available. If missing, indicates it needs to be assigned

  • Year - if available. If missing, indicates it needs to be assigned

  • Assign - provides a link to open the Assign Tag Details screen to add the missing details

Assign Tag Details

Assign Tag Details

If selected from the Complete Import screen it will display a screen similar to what is shown below with only the missing data fields active. The information on the screen is as follows:

  • VID # (From) - VID # (To)

    • Would only be displayed if:

      • The VIDs conformed to 1-6 digit format

      • The VIDs are sequential with no gaps in sequence

    • The “From” side will be inactive and will contain the starting number still available from the import

    • The “To” field will contain the largest number available on on the file. This can be edited if only a portion of the range should be assigned to the other missing data. For example, if the range is 1 to 1,000, 1 to 500 could be assigned to Cattle which will leave 501 - 1,000 to be assigned an animal type later. The field will limit editing range to the From number to the highest number on the file.

  • Animal Type - would be active if missing

  • Visual Tag Year - would be active if missing

  • Tag Colour - would be active if missing

  • COMPLETE button - Once selected, this will either:

    • Return to the Complete Import screen if there are still tags that need details assigned. If this is the scenario, It will remove the previous line if all tags in the VID range (if applicable) were assigned details or will update the Starting VID number based on assignments just made.

    • Return to the Import Tags Summary screen if all details for import have been assigned and update the status column to "Imported".

The Order Details section provides identical information as shown in the Summary page for the order but is shown here for reference.

The Tag Details section lists all tags in the import. The following details for each tag will be shown if available:

  • EID - up to 16 digits

  • Visual Tag - up to 20 characters

  • Animal Type - Cattle, Deer or Sheep

  • VID Year - 9999 (represents unknown) or 2007 - Current

  • Tag Color - per standards

    • Complete - displayed if all required information has been added to the tags on the import

    • Incomplete - displayed if additional information is required before the tag can be used in the system

  • Active

    • Will display Yes if the tag has been assigned animal data in the system

    • This is updated each time the tablet syncs

Notes:

  • In most cases, the Tag Details section will show all tags for the import with the EID and VID on the same row except in the following scenarios:

    • If the EID and VID was previously imported it will not be shown and it will not be included in the tag count

    • If the EID without the VID (or the reverse) was previously imported, only the portion not previously imported will be shown

    • If an animal record was created with a different EID and VID alignment, the import will show the EID and VID information on different ros. This will be the case even if the EID and VID records are merged later.
